I was born a sick kid by the age of nine I had, had more seizures than my mother could count. I was diagnosed with childhood epilepsy. In case you aren't sure what this means it is a disorder that causes excessive and abnormal brain cell activity. So I guess you could say that I was born with a broken brain.
Around my ninth birthday I had a terrible seizure while taking a bath. I can remember playing around in the bubbles, as my mother worked in the kitchen.. the next memory I had was waking up in the hospital wearing my little mermaid gown and no underwear. I remember seeing the hurt in my parents eyes as they had witnessed my little body convulsing. Obviously I cant remember all the details of what happened because I was only a child, but I do know that it was a miracle that I was alive and it didn't cause any of the brain damage that was expected.
I was on seizure medicine from the time I was a year old until I was twenty eight all of my EEG tests have came back abnormal. Growing up it seemed like I felt pain differently than others my doctor said he thought my pain threshold was damaged from the seizures that I had. The doctor also told me because I had such a hard time dealing with pain I would most likely never be able to have a natural childbirth because the pain could literally kill me. At twelve or thirteen the thought really didn't have much meaning to me. You don't realize as a child how experiences can affect you as an adult. Then one day you wake up as a thirty year old and you just kind of feel like your life is running behind. I was born a sick kid..
